● Cracow – Sendai「仙台白百合学園中学·高等学校」Student Exchange

The first Poland-Japan student exchange. Held in the year 2012, 7 girls from the Sunstar School of Japanese flew to Sendai. Cared for by the local host families, they were attending the female Catholic Sendai High School, 仙台白百合学園高等学校. Representing Polish culture, they spent two weeks in the land of the rising sun.

Their journey began in Tokyo (東京), the capital city of Japan. The bustling streets, illuminated with thousands of neon lights were amazingly captivating. The girls told me, that the incredible disparity between Tokyo and Sendai forms an unforgettable clash of the the Japanese modern culture, and the daily life of the citizens.

Since Japan is rich in enchanting towns and villages, our students visited many, one of them being Ishinomaki (石巻).

During the stay, the girls had the opportunity to understand and feel what really happened in March 2011. Every one of them told me, that the visit was an extremely enriching experience. They went there to help people affected by the disaster, support them mentally and to represent Polish culture. They unanimously agree that conversations with the residents of Ishinomaki, who’d lost everything, even their families, and are still able to smile, were utterly beyond their description.
